Eating vegan at the Zürcher Theaterspektakel.

IMG_3953

Vegan is the new vegetarian.

The Street Food Festival already showed that almost every food stall had a vegan option on offer. The spectacle proves that vegan food can go hand in hand with a visit to the theater and is in keeping with the spirit of the times: More and more restaurants are offering a vegan option. We have summarized the highlights for you.

Cantina

Vegetables from root to leaf, tofu.

Henri- laughs

Organic cuisine with oriental mezze platter (vegan option on request), quinoa burgers (vegetarian) with salad.

Landis

Organic fair trade and slow food products with a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Mamaput

African cuisine, dodo (plantains), akara (bean balls) and if you want, you can put together a plate of appetizers from the various pots and round it all off with egusi (pumpkin seed sauce).

Patata

Potatoes in foil, potato noggi, French fries with salad.

Lido

The Lido Paradiso offers wood-fired pizzas as fine as Im
Rosso
or the
Bar Basso
they maintain a Cucina Italiana and there is also pasta. The Lido collective only uses organic products, and vegan food is also put on the grill.

The Röhrli Bar

Off to the crate! Conni Stüssi and her Röhrli Bar team have gone under the radar – in the truest sense of the word. They turn the Röhrli bar into a land of crates: there are stacks of two-person crates, soap boxes, flicker boxes, treasure chests, boxes to look in and boxes to look out of. The food box contains everything that makes children’s hearts beat faster: Hot dogs, popcorn, treats, and if you want something healthy: Apples. And of course101 varieties of syrup! Mampfred, who eats all the compostable waste, makes sure that the waste box doesn’t overflow. This year, he will be relieved of the task of the cup return lady, as the syrup is now available in returnable cups.

Street art suitable for children takes place in good weather on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons in front of the Röhrlibar. More information on site at the bar. Admission is free, but there is a hat collection.

By the way, a wonderful merry-go-round is in operation from MO, DI, DO and FR from 5 pm, MI and SA from 3 pm, SO from 2 pm

The Green Fairy Pixie children’s ice cream

Pixie Collage less PixPixie is the first healthy children’s ice cream

Pixie is intended to be a healthy alternative for all young and old with a sweet tooth, as a smoothie without added sugar, but with natural fruit purees and therefore lots of nutrients. The crowdfunding for this project is in the final phase, but there is still some support missing. We at the vegan kitchen are also calling for donations:

The first healthy children’s ice cream could conquer the market this summer. After all, who isn’t familiar with this dilemma: children want delicious sweets, but parents want to make sure they eat a healthy diet. Pixie is intended to be a healthy alternative for all young and old with a sweet tooth, as a smoothie without added sugar, but with natural fruit purees and therefore lots of nutrients.

Crowdfunding is in full swing, but a lot of support is needed to make it happen. For just a few more days you can visit
100-days.net
and receive lots of tasty goodies as a thank you. For example, an invitation to the Green Fairy summer party!

The Green Fairy The company behind Sonja Dänzer (
The vegan ice cream princess
) is already conquering the Swiss ice cream market with her delicious vegan organic ice cream. As there were no good products for lactose-intolerant ice cream lovers, she tinkered with recipes herself, which tasted so good to her and her friends that she decided to produce them in larger quantities. It goes without saying that her 5-year-old son is also a big fan of ice cream. He wants ice cream for breakfast and gave her the idea of healthy children’s ice cream. Of course, he is also the chief tester when it comes to the taste of the new product!

So if you want to enjoy the summer with a delicious ice cream that is both healthy and sustainably produced, support The Green Fairy on 100-days.net.

Klara’s kitchen & STORE in the university quarter

FullSizeRenderI was delighted when, during a detox weekend in Austria, I came across the news on social media that an organic take-away was opening in the university quarter. And so, of course, I could hardly wait to return to Zurich to admire and taste the delicacies on site.

Klara’s kitchen offers a healthy, light and high-quality alternative for breakfast and lunch for those in a hurry.

The menus are vegetarian, but almost all are also vegan, light, without preservatives and with a highly concentrated nutritional density.

You will find a large selection of superfoods that unfold their power and taste either in smoothies or other treats.

Soup and a lunch menu are served daily.

Smoothies, juices, salads, sandwiches, wraps and various sweets are also on the menu.

At the back of the takeaway there is a fine, small but well-stocked organic store.

I tried the vegan falafel sandwich with a spelt braid from John Baker, as well as the Bircher muesli.

Both were very, very tasty and I’m already looking forward to trying the whole menu.

I also think it’s great that all the sweets are made without any white granulated sugar and only fruit sweeteners (dates or bananas) or agave syrup are used.

Klara and Erich are looking forward to your visit!

Sonja Dänzer on Aeschbacher on SRF 1

Screenshot 2015-05-11 at 10.14.42 Screenshot 2015-05-11 at 10.15.16

On April 9th Sonja Dänzer from
Green Fairy
visited the Aeschbacher Studio.

As a philosopher and ethics doctoral student, she questioned her own consumer behavior and switched to a vegan diet. As a sweet tooth, however, she was missing something – namely ice cream that really tastes good. Sonja Dänzer spent months tinkering with recipes in her kitchen and launched ice creams made from purely plant-based ingredients under the label “The Green Fairy”. She wants to prove to the world that a vegan diet does not mean sacrificing pleasure. Instead of pointing a moral finger, she wants to convince consumers with good taste, now also with the first healthy children’s ice cream.

So here is the last program.Screenshot 2015-05-11 at 10.16.27

The green smoothie workshop on May 26, 2015

nell_smoothieThe green futuristic meal for your health. It is crucial that we supply the body with green leafy vegetables. The green smoothie is great: if we drink a glass of it, we consume half the amount of fruit and vegetables we should eat per day in one go. In this course you will get to know different combinations of leafy vegetables, fruits and seeds. After a few degustaions of sweet and savory green smoothies, you will learn how to blend a green smoothie muesli as a whole meal.

The course consists of the theory of the green smoothie and its history, detailed knowledge of vital substances, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and bitter substances, chlorophyll in green leafy vegetables, the rules and tricks of the green smoothie. As well as a practical block: tasting sweet and savory green smoothies in a large catering kitchen and finishing with making your own green smoothie muesli. All ingredients are organic!

The workshop costs CHF 100 including course materials and dinner (green smoothie muesli).

Easter brunch. Excluding laying hens and day-old chicks.

IMG_8042

Today at Easter brunch, the table was richly laid. We had leek and potato quiche, smoked tofu sausages,
soy cream cheese
large colorful salad, various breads, Wilmersburger cheese, hummus,
baba ghanoush
Bircher muesli with apple, banana, pear, soy yogurt,
Sahara confectionery
cherry brownies and cookies.

To celebrate, we’re giving you the recipe for the quiche from our vegan kitchen and friends cookbook(click on the recipe to enlarge). The entire book can be purchased from Orell Füssli, selected bookshops or directly from us by sending an e-mail to info@vegankitchen.ch.

If you want to add a whipped topping , prepare it with the following ingredients in a mixer or with a whisk in a bowl:

400 g silken tofu

2 tablespoons cornflour

1 pinch of sea salt

some pepper, freshly ground

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/4 tsp nutmeg, freshly grated

1 tsp thyme, fresh or dried

1 teaspoon oregano, fresh or dried 12 teaspoons basil, fresh or dried

1 tsp chives, fresh

A cheerful group of vegans and non-vegans met for Easter brunch. But what would Easter be without Easter eggs? A better world. At least for hens and male chicks. Before Easter, they lay eggs in piecework, but are still not allowed to raise their young. Male chicks are usually killed immediately. To the report in the Sonntagszeitung. You can find reading material on day-old chicks here.
